More precious than gold

We have all heard the saying "Water is more precious than gold".

Well, here at the Commission environmental issues are taken seriously. After this year's World Water Day a new hotline was set up for a different kind of emergency from the ones we usually think of.

More precisely - if you happen to notice a leak in the toilets or small kitchens, you can now call 55555 or send an e-mail to OIB 55555 and the problem will be fixed! Sounds great, doesn't it?

Did you know?
  • A dripping tap "wastes" +/- 4 litres of water an hour or +/- 35,000 litres/year;
  • A thin but steady stream of water equals 16 litres/hour or +/- 140,000 litres/year;
  • A leaking toilet "loses" +/- 25 litres per hour or +/- 219,000 litres a year.
Imagine how much water we could save if everyone in the 66 buildings occupied by the Commission in Brussels took action! Think green!
