Gypsy mobsters, dirty deals and shotgun weddings - this could be the start of a beautiful friendship… miaow!

What is the connection between the most famous line in Casablanca (and probably all movie history) and the mysterious world of Balkan gangsters? This week's CineClub screening on April 12th gave us the answer:

Emir Kusturica's Black Cat, White Cat proved to be an excellent choice for the movie of the week. For more than two hours we had the pleasure of being taken into the world of Kusturica, populated with lively, exaggerated characters, eccentric men and fierce women.

The movie has a weird plot and many visual gags, all of this topped off with tons of absurd humour, loud music and a feeling of nostalgia for a world that still had the Deutsche Mark in it.

All in all, Black Cat, White Cat is a beautiful movie, highly recommended to anyone with a liking for unusual comedies - and who knows, your first viewing may be the beginning of your very own beautiful friendship with the film...

For those hungry for more Balkan music, Goran Bregovic has a concert in Brussels on Friday April 15th!
